Socially Responsible Business Internship

AHA Bolivia is a fair trade, ethical manufacturing company in Bolivia working with over 300 artisans to handcraft knitwear, handbags, baby clothes, toys, and more. AHA Bolivia believes garment and accessories manufacturing can be done ethically. We work with designers, retailers and wholesalers to create designer pieces in natural fibers and recyclable materials. We respect and utilize handmade manufacturing techniques that have taken generations to perfect. We value our workers and artisans and treat them with dignity and fairness and are proud members of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO).

Internship Description:

This project is a unique combination of internship and learning workshops designed to introduce students to socially responsible business practices. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how business works in a developing nation, and how it relates to export markets such as the US and Canada. These hands-on internships are designed to give students  experience working with a socially responsible business focused on cottage industry and export.

Intern Requirements:

  • Experience in business
  • Good writing skills
  • Experience with EXCEL
  • Ability to work as a team and take direction
  • A basic level of Spanish is preferred but not necessary
  • English required

Additional Information:

AHA Bolivia team will present a number of learning modules that are designed to give students an overview of pertinent topics and to create a forum for discussion. Modules include but are not limited to: Fair Trade, Ethical Trade & Corporate Social Responsibility; Globalization and the Supply Chain; Sourcing; Bolivian Culture & Current Events. The modules may include field learning experiences to cottage factories and markets.

Program Includes:

  • Internship position
  • Learning modules & accompanying activities (6-8 hours per week)
  • Accommodation, shared housing
  • Site visits and internship-related transportation in Cochabamba
  • Airport pick-up & drop-off
  • All administrative costs

Program Does Not Include:

  • Round-trip airfare to/from Cochabamba
  • Travel/emergency medical insurance
  • Spanish conversation classes
  • Visa if needed
